Cockapoo Companions in Connecticut
Ever notice how a Cockapoo seems to smile? Families across Connecticut fall for that cheerful expression, along with the breed's easygoing temperament. Part Cocker Spaniel and part Poodle, a Cockapoo is small enough for a Greenwich condo yet sturdy enough to enjoy fetch across a big New England yard bordered by old stone walls. It's also a lovely match for households with kids, since it tends to be patient and playful through a long snowed-in weekend.
Cockapoos have moderate energy and love variety. Along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail and the banks of the Housatonic River, local families find scenic routes for walking, biking, and soaking up each season. Trail and park policies for dogs are not all the same, so read the signs at each trailhead before your Cockapoo hops out of the car. When outdoor plans fall through, this adaptable spaniel mix is just as glad to curl up in a sunroom during a rainy spell or chase a ball down the upstairs hallway of a Connecticut colonial.
The Cockapoo coat, often wavy and low shedding, needs steady upkeep through our changing seasons. Spring mud season leaves legs and bellies caked, while muggy summer days on the shoreline encourage mats behind the spaniel ears and under the collar. Ticks love the brushy edges of wooded yards, so a full-body check after outdoor play is essential from spring through fall. Winter brings ice and road salt, so rinse those feathery paws after walks and keep a soft towel handy for snowy evenings. Trimming the fur between the pads before December keeps ice balls from forming on the walk home from the Greenwich train platform.
