Mini Goldendoodle Life in New Jersey
Long Beach Island in late summer, with bikes leaning against porch rails and beach towels flapping on the line, is the scene many New Jersey families picture when they imagine a family dog. A Mini Goldendoodle fits right in. It's sized for a shore house or a suburban home, friendly with kids and guests, and energetic enough to enjoy a long walk but calm enough to nap through an evening on the deck. Come Sunday traffic on the drive home, it's usually snoring in the back seat.
Wide views of the inlet and the tall red and white tower at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park make for a memorable outing, and inland, the sandy roads and pitch pines of the Pine Barrens offer quiet, fragrant walks. Always check posted pet rules first, since rules for dogs on beaches and some trails change with the season. Afterward, inspect that thick coat closely, as ticks are common in the pines and grassy dunes. Pine Barrens sand also hides prickly burrs, so carry a comb in the car. Doodle coats and Long Beach Island air need a game plan. Salt and sand settle deep into curly or wavy fur, and humid shore days make mats form fast, especially under the collar and behind the legs. Rinse with fresh water after any time near the ocean, towel off well, and work a slicker brush through every layer. In winter, the same coat collects snowballs and road salt on suburban streets, so wipe paws and legs when you come in and keep the feet neatly trimmed. A shorter summer clip makes shore season far easier.
