About Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Puppies

Ireland's Beloved Hypoallergenic Terrier

The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a joyful, exuberant Irish breed whose silky, flowing wheaten-colored coat and infectious happy personality have made it one of the most beloved terrier breeds in the world. Originally bred as an all-purpose farm dog in Ireland over 200 years ago, the Wheaten Terrier was the working man's companion, expected to herd livestock, guard the home, and hunt vermin with equal enthusiasm. Unlike many terrier breeds that can be high-strung or aggressive, the Wheaten Terrier is known for its famously friendly greeting, the enthusiastic full-body wiggle known as the "Wheaten Greetin", which they bestow on family members and strangers alike. Their playful, energetic nature makes them outstanding family companions who thrive on human interaction and never seem to lose their puppy-like enthusiasm for life.

A Soft, Silky Coat That Barely Sheds

The hallmark of this breed is their stunning, soft, silky coat that flows like silk when properly groomed and ranges from pale beige to warm honey gold. Wheaten Terriers are considered hypoallergenic because their single-layer coat produces very little dander and does not shed in the seasonal way that most double-coated breeds do. This makes them an excellent choice for families with allergy sensitivities who want an active, medium-sized companion. Wheatens typically weigh between 30 and 45 pounds and stand about 17 to 19 inches tall, making them the perfect size for both house and apartment living. They are incredibly versatile dogs that excel at agility, obedience, and therapy work.
