The Pomapoo crosses the Pomeranian with the Toy Poodle. A tiny, charming companion, it is valued for an affectionate, lively personality in a very small package, with the Poodle's hypoallergenic coat. It suits apartment dwellers, seniors, and owners wanting a portable lap dog, with the understanding that a dog this small calls for gentle handling.
Pomapoos are sweet, friendly, and affectionate, combining the Pomeranian's spirited charm with the Poodle's intelligence. They are generally outgoing and enjoy being lap companions, though some inherit the Pomeranian's reserve with strangers and may warm up gradually. They are trainable with positive reinforcement and can be somewhat vocal.
The Pomapoo is a very small dog. Height runs 8 to 12 inches and weight runs 5 to 15 lbs.
Dogs that lean toward the Pomeranian stay tiny and fox-like, while those with more Poodle influence can be slightly larger with curlier coats.
The coat is soft and can be wavy to curly, and is hypoallergenic. Regular brushing keeps the coat from matting, and periodic trimming helps. Small mouths make dental care important, and ears need routine cleaning.
As a toy cross, Pomapoos carry small-breed risks including patellar luxation, dental and periodontal disease, tracheal collapse, and eye conditions. The Pomeranian line can contribute risk of collapsing trachea and in some dogs alopecia, while the Poodle side contributes progressive retinal atrophy and epilepsy risk. Their delicate size means injury from falls or rough handling is a real concern. Health testing of parent dogs is recommended.
Pomapoos have low to moderate exercise needs that adapt to the owner's lifestyle. A daily walk and active play are enough. They are ideal apartment and small-home dogs. Because they are so small and can be delicate, interactions with young children should be closely supervised.
Typical lifespan is 12 to 14 years. Dental care, weight control, and gentle handling support a full life.
