About Italian Greyhound Puppies

Why Families Love Italian Greyhounds

The Italian Greyhound is an elegant miniature sighthound that combines the grace and speed of a greyhound with the affectionate, devoted nature of a true companion breed. Weighing between 7 and 14 pounds and standing 13 to 15 inches tall, Italian Greyhounds are slender, refined dogs with a distinctive high-stepping gait and a sleek, short coat that comes in a wide range of colors including fawn, blue, black, red, cream, and white. These ancient dogs have been prized companions for over 2,000 years, gracing the courts of Mediterranean nobles and appearing in Renaissance masterpieces. Today, they remain one of the most elegant and graceful toy breeds, turning heads wherever they go.

Graceful, Surprisingly Fast, and Devoted

Do not let the Italian Greyhound's delicate appearance deceive you, these dogs are surprisingly fast and athletic, capable of reaching speeds of up to 25 miles per hour in short bursts. They love to run and play in safe, enclosed spaces, and their natural athleticism makes them excellent candidates for lure coursing and agility. Despite their speed, Italian Greyhounds are primarily lap dogs at heart, craving warmth and physical closeness with their owners. They are gentle, affectionate, and somewhat sensitive, forming deep bonds with their families. Their short, low-maintenance coat requires minimal grooming, and their compact size makes them ideal for apartment living and travel.
