About Briard Puppies

The Ancient French Herding Dog

The Briard is one of the oldest and most distinguished French herding breeds, celebrated for its long, flowing coat, unwavering loyalty, and keen intelligence. With a history that stretches back over a thousand years, Briards have served as herding dogs, military sentries, and beloved family guardians throughout the centuries. Charlemagne, Napoleon, and Thomas Jefferson are all reputed to have admired this noble breed. The Briard's striking appearance, with its distinctive wavy coat that falls in natural waves over its entire body, combined with its devoted and protective nature, makes it one of the most captivating breeds for those who appreciate both beauty and substance in a companion.

Briard Temperament & Coat

Briards are remarkably intelligent and versatile dogs who excel in obedience, herding trials, and family life. Their long, luxurious coat comes in a variety of colors including black, grey, and tawny, and while it requires regular grooming, it is surprisingly non-shedding for its length. These dogs are fiercely loyal to their families and naturally protective, making them excellent watchdogs who will alert you to any unusual activity. At the same time, they are gentle and affectionate with children, playful with family members, and possess a wonderful sense of humor that endears them to everyone they meet.
