The Yorkiepoo crosses the Yorkshire Terrier with the Toy or Miniature Poodle. A tiny, spirited companion, it packs a big personality into a small frame and carries a hypoallergenic coat from both sides of the cross. It is popular with apartment dwellers and seniors, and with anyone wanting a portable, affectionate lap dog.
Yorkiepoos are intelligent, affectionate, and energetic, blending the Yorkshire Terrier's confident, sometimes sassy nature with the Poodle's eagerness to please. They are playful and devoted and make alert little watchdogs, which means they can be vocal, though barking can be reduced with training. They bond closely with their people and can dislike being left alone.
The Yorkiepoo is a consistently small dog. Height runs 7 to 15 inches and weight runs 5 to 15 lbs.
Toy Poodle crosses stay at the smaller end. Because both parent breeds are small, adult size is fairly predictable.
The coat ranges from silky and straight like the Yorkie to soft and curly like the Poodle, and is hypoallergenic. Daily or near-daily brushing prevents matting and tangles, and overgrown hair around the eyes should be trimmed to prevent irritation. Small mouths make dental care especially important, and ears need routine cleaning.
Yorkiepoos can inherit patellar luxation, dental and periodontal disease, and endocrine conditions including hypothyroidism, diabetes, and Cushing's disease. Other documented concerns include allergies and skin conditions, ear infections, and senior-onset cataracts. Selecting a breeder who health-tests both parent dogs reduces risk.
Yorkiepoos have modest exercise needs. Short daily walks and indoor play are enough, which makes them well suited to apartments and to owners with limited mobility. Because they are so small, they should be handled gently and supervised around young children and larger dogs.
Typical lifespan is 10 to 15 years. Dental care, weight control, and routine veterinary monitoring for endocrine disease support a long life.
