The Mini Cavapoo crosses the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with the Toy Poodle, producing a smaller version of one of the most popular doodle crosses. It carries the Cavalier's gentle sweetness and the Poodle's intelligence and hypoallergenic coat in a package small enough for any home. It is one of the most requested small companion crosses for families, seniors, and first-time owners.
Mini Cavapoos are affectionate, gentle, and sociable, with an easygoing nature that suits almost any household. They are typically excellent with children, other dogs, and cats, and they are friendly with strangers. They are people-focused and want to be close to their family, which means they can develop separation anxiety if left alone for long stretches. Training is generally easy with positive reinforcement.
The Mini Cavapoo is a small dog. Height runs 9 to 12 inches and weight runs 8 to 15 lbs.
Because the Toy Poodle parent is very small, Mini Cavapoos stay at the low end of the Cavapoo size range.
The coat ranges from wavy to curly and is hypoallergenic in the sense that it sheds very little. Brush several times weekly to prevent matting and schedule professional grooming every six to eight weeks. The Cavalier's long, feathered ears trap moisture and need routine cleaning. Eyes should be wiped to manage tear staining.
Mini Cavapoos can inherit mitral valve disease from the Cavalier side, which is the most significant health concern in that breed, along with syringomyelia, patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, and hip dysplasia. Recommended parent testing includes cardiac evaluation, eye clearances, patella evaluation, and DNA screening for PRA. Ask about heart health in the Cavalier parent's line specifically.
Mini Cavapoos have moderate energy and are satisfied with daily walks and indoor play, roughly 30 minutes a day. They adapt very well to apartments and small homes and should live indoors with the family. They are companion dogs that do not tolerate long hours alone.
Typical lifespan is 12 to 15 years. Cardiac monitoring, dental care, and weight management support a long life.
